Covid-19 Soap Update

Firstly, we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed so far to the Covid-19 appeal. Progress has been made, as the soap consignment has arrived! Bishop Emmanuel has sent us these photos of the boxes of soap that have been delivered to the Diocesan Office in Moyo. He says they will start distributing it throughout Palorinya Refugee Camp on Thursday. To continue the support, please donate here:

Update on the Coronavirus

Unfortunately, in Palorinya Refugee camp, food rations have been cut down by 1/3. This means that the previous 12kg of food per person per month has been reduced to 8kg. Because of this, people have started moving back to Kajo Keji in South Sudan to prepare land for agriculture.

Please help and donate here to provide the basic sanitation that is needed, and stop the spread of the Coronavirus.

Coronavirus Emergency Appeal

As of April 1^st 2020 the Trustees have decided to pause all of our current and ongoing projects in order to focus on the urgent need to help stop the spread of Coronavirus in the refugee camp. We are working closely with our local partner, the Diocese of Kajo Keji in Moyo and we have set up a fund so that we can respond to the most urgent needs. Microfinance Group Update

We’ve just received an update from the South Sudanese about the microfinance groups! There are a total of 3 groups set up, with 84 people being involved and actively saving each week. The microfinance system is fully functional with loans being taken out and others being repaid. The aim now is to get up to 7 microfinance groups set up!

Mr Losuba Emmanuel

Mr Losuba Emmanuel is a resident of Morobi camp and businessmen operating in Konyo-Konyo market. He said he had difficulties in managing his business but he was excited after receiving business training organised by Projects Delivering Hope, where he acquired basic skills for his business. He further joined Salvation Saving and Loan association where he was given a loan to buy items for his shop. The loan he borrowed has increased sales and the profit margin of his business.

He therefore encourages his members to continue saving and make loans for better profits in the business.

Charcoal Bread Oven Fundraiser

We’re so grateful to everyone who contributed to this project which saw us raise enough money to purchase 10 charcoal bread ovens which will be used by Mothers Union groups to make bread for their families and sell it within their communities. One very successful fundraiser at The Lamb, Devizes provided funding for 7 of the 10 ovens which was amazing. A huge thank you to Nick (the ivories) and Ben (the maestro) Bryan, Nikki (the word) Cottrell, Barbara (the voice) Gompels and last but not least, Pete (the rocker) Assirati who came up with the idea.

Four Day Business Workshop

A successful business training workshop! Many people from the local area came to learn how to improve their business, with questions such as marketing, security and international trade! Following on from the workshop, a microfinance program was set up. This is an ongoing project and will aim to act as small-scale loans to help the people and businesses of the community.

Team Briefing – Four Day Business Training

On Saturday 27th April, the UK team of business professionals met in Reading for a briefing session as they prepare to travel to Uganda at the end of June. It was a good opportunity to meet one another as we all come from different parts of the South of England. The team members are now busy preparing their presentations and seminars.

Visit to Uganda for Women in Wellies

The women gather to thank all the friends and supporters of Projects Delivering Hope.

What an amazing reception the Trustees received at the Morobi refugee camp when we visited the women farmers who have benefitted from our Women in Wellies project in January. There was singing and dancing to the beat of African drums and shakers. There were tears of joy, and heartfelt speeches of thanks as wellies were presented and received as an expression of the love of the donors from the UK. Something we all take for granted means so much to these brave women.

Fundraising Women in Wellies Project

We did it! With the help of our incredible supporters, we have raised enough money to provide 300 pairs of wellies to the South Sudanese women farmers who until now, have had to work in the field all day wearing flip-flops. Through birthday parties, men’s breakfasts, senior citizens harvest supper, dancing, baking, choir concerts and straight donations we smashed our target of £1,500. On behalf of those women – a huge Thank You!
